You’ve read the reports stating that overweight people and obesity are nearing epidemic levels within the U.S. You might be someone who constantly struggles to maintain a healthy weight, and your failure at being able to do so can adversely affect your health as well as your self-confidence. Our Shawnee, KS, weight loss center (which serves men and women throughout the Greater Kansas City Metro Area) has embraced the mission of providing premier, medically supervised metabolic management plans tailored to each individual patient. Our goal and vision is to help you return to and maintain normal and healthy metabolic processes throughout the rest of your life. Learn more about our Weight Management process below or call us to get started on your journey to a healthy lifestyle today !

The first step in the weight management process is to collect and review your medical history, which includes your genetic, psychological, social, and environmental information. The information in this history will help us determine which tests we will recommend.

While fasting laboratory tests are required for all our patients, we may require other tests:

  • Complete blood count
  • Thyroid function studies
  • HgbA1c
  • 3-hour glucose tolerance test with insulin levels
  • Complete metabolic pane
  • Complete cholesterol and lipid panel
  • C-peptide
  • EKG
  • C-reactive protein
  • Insulin level
  • 24-hour urine test

Once these tests have been completed and the information has been reviewed and evaluated, we will be able to put together a tailored metabolic management plan based on your specific needs. Your personalized weight management plan will include the following:

  • Nutritional guidance to assist you in knowing what foods are best for your body.
  • Exercise counseling to recommend physical activity at levels that are appropriate for your situation.
  • Behavior modification to eliminate negative habits and actions and introduce positive and beneficial behaviors in their place.
  • Recommendation of appropriate medications with the goal of eliminating medications, if possible, as your weight and metabolic processes return to healthy levels.
  • Recording of blood sugar levels, food you eat, blood pressure, and other factors will help us work with you to further tailor and customize your plan.
  • Follow-up evaluations will tell us how the plan is working for you and if any adjustments need to be made.
Here at Women’s and Family Care, we know how debilitating allergies can be. Whether you suffer from environmental, seasonal, food, or other allergies or sensitivities, we can help you identify and regulate your allergies to allow you to get back to life unrestricted.

Mass-produced over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription allergy medications can ease your symptoms. But they often have significant side effects.

The good news: There are now custom medications available that have been specifically designed to resolve your allergy itself.

Our medications are unique custom-formulated antigen therapies that can help desensitize you to many of the pollens, molds and other triggers that cause your symptoms and make you uncomfortable. This desensitization therapy can allow you to be around those allergens without the common allergic reactions and symptoms.

With minimal continued maintenance usage, these medications may last you a lifetime.

Skin testing is the oldest and most reliable form of allergy testing. Used for over 100 years, skin testing continues to be the “gold standard” for diagnosing allergic disease.

This testing is not painful. A tiny comb gently scratches or abrades the skin surface. After the test is performed, it takes only about 15 minutes to develop. A positive test will appear as a raised, red itchy bump on the skin, like a mosquito bite.

The skin test reveals allergic disease in miniature. For example, if you think you are allergic to cats, the test will show it. The test helps people see (and feel) a positive allergy to cat dander. This educational experience is much more dramatic for the patient than a printed blood test report revealing a positive cat allergy test.

Your doctor cares about you and your health. That’s why he or she is offering you custom allergy solutions from UAS. Your doctor wants the best possible care and treatment for you and, more importantly, to reduce or eliminate your symptoms and discomfort. So you can enjoy a more comfortable, better quality of life.

Test results are available within 15 minutes of testing, so you don’t have to wait long to learn the cause of your allergies.

Adults and children over the age of two can be tested for allergies. This is especially helpful for patients who suffer with asthma, allergic pneumonia, conjunctivitis (pink eye), undiagnosed cough, dermatitis (skin irritation), insect allergy, rhinitis, sinusitis, urticaria (hives) and angioedema (similar to hives, but beneath the skin).

You will be tested for the 50 most geographically specific allergens in your area. We will test for products from dust mites, proteins from pet hair and dander, trees, grass and weed pollen, molds and cockroach droppings.

Allergen immunotherapy is a form of treatment aimed at decreasing your sensitivity to substances called allergens. It involves introducing increasing amounts of an allergen to a patient over several months..

Call or ask your doctor for more information.

If you currently use over-the-counter and prescription allergy relief aids, you know that they can have uncomfortable side effects. You also know that they don’t address the underlying cause of your symptoms. That’s why you should talk to your doctor about precision allergy testing and the new customized medications that could help you say goodbye to your allergies forever.

We know that every patient is different. Each responds differently to different allergens. That’s why we custom-formulate every single dosage of our allergy medications specifically for the individual patient.

Unlike over-the-counter and prescription medications that ease your symptoms but may have significant side effects, we identify, then treat the cause of your disease with custom medications.

At Women’s and Family Care, we proudly offer Commercial Driver Physicals. We have worked to achieve and maintain our qualification to be able to offer this service. Because this is a regulated and certified service, there are Federal guidelines and processes we must follow. See the provided information below, so you are fully prepared for your visit.

As registered examiners for commercial drivers, we are able to perform these required physicals in accordance to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards. If you meet the following qualifications, you will be required to perform such a physical:

  • You operate a commercial vehicle in interstate commerce.
  • The vehicle you operate has a combined gross weight or weight rating of 10,001 lbs. or more.
  • The vehicle you operate is designed or used to transport 9-15 passengers (including the driver) for compensation.
  • The vehicle you operate is designed to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver) whether for compensation or not.
  • You are transporting hazardous materials in quantities that require placarding under the Hazardous Materials Regulations.
  • If you as the driver are returning from an illness or injury that has interfered with your driving ability.
  • It has been two or more years since your last certification. At the discretion of the FMCSA examiner, that time may be less than two years.
  • The Federal Diabetes and Exemption programs require annual medical certification.

We want you to be as comfortable as possible, so we recommend that you wear comfortable clothes to your examination appointment. You will need to bring with you any required forms, including the DOT Medical Examination Report, with the “Driver Information” and “Health History” sections already completed.

The examination itself will include a review of your health history, a urine test, and a physical exam.

After the examination, we will complete the Medical Examination Report for Commercial Driver Fitness Determination form and the Medical Examiner’s Certificate as appropriate.

Please make note that your insurance will not pay for this special type of physical examination, and payment will be required at the time of your visit. Additional charges apply for labs and tests, including the urine test, random blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, or spirometry.

Also, please do not replace your regular annual physical examination with your primary care doctor with this commercial driver physical. This exam is specific to the needs of the certification requirements and does not offer the kind of personalized examination that your primary care physician will offer you.
